Three-year Teaching Fellowships

INTERLINK Language Centers and SIT Graduate Institute are pleased to announce teaching fellowships for 2010-13.  Fellows enhance their teaching effectiveness through study in SIT’s MA in Teaching ESOL and employment at the Saudi INTERLINK Language Centers (SILC).  Fellowships consist of two summers of full-time study in Vermont, USA, and, at the Saudi INTERLINK Language Center at Al Yamamah University (YU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a one-year supervised internship and two years of full-time employment.


  • Fifty percent (50%) tuition scholarship, contributed jointly by INTERLINK and SIT
  • A $2,333 monthly stipend for the first academic year of teaching at SILC (September 2009 – June 2010)
  • A starting salary of $36,000 after the second summer’s course work is completed at SIT
  • Salary increase of $2,000 when degree requirements are completed with additional increases of up to $2,000 for previous ESOL teaching experience
  • A 5% bonus for each year of SILC service completed
  • Round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia each year
  • Local transportation to and from YU
  • Furnished apartment
  • Medical insurance
  • 20 days of local holidays, plus 45 days of paid summer vacation with international transportation at the end of the second and third years of teaching


  1. A minimum of three (3) years language teaching experience with adults
  2. At least one year of teaching experience in a country other than the applicant’s country of origin
  3. US bachelor’s degree or an equivalent that demonstrates academic ability
  4. Demonstrated excellent communication skills
  5. Demonstrated ability to use experience as a source of learning
  6. An understanding of the structure and philosophy of SIT’s MAT program
  7. Demonstrated agreement with the pedagogical principles observed by INTERLINK and SIT
  8. Commitment to learning-centered and student-focused educational approaches
  9. Demonstrated sensitivity to and acceptance of cultural differences
  10. Demonstrated ability to adapt to a new environment that requires understanding, conformity, and flexibility
  11. Demonstrated ability to work well with others
  12. Superior English language proficiency and communication skills

In addition, preference will be given to those who meet one or more of the following six (6) criteria.

  1. Familiarity with project-based or task-based approaches to teaching
  2. Experience teaching university students, 3 years minimum
  3. Experience teaching in universities that use English as the language of instruction
  4. Proficiency in a language other than English
  5. Exceptional professional or humanitarian work experience, such as US Peace Corps or work in other cross-cultural settings
  6. English language teaching in the Middle East


June 21 – August 14, 2010.  Coursework at SIT Graduate Institute

September 2010 – June 2011.  Teaching at SILC

June – August 2011.  Coursework at SIT Graduate Institute

September 2011 – June 2012.  Teaching at SILC while completing final degree project for SIT

September 2012 – June 2013.  Teaching at SILC

To be considered for the fellowship, please send us at a copy of your resume and a cover letter explaining why you should be awarded the fellowship. These must be received on or before Sunday, February 28, 2010. Those who are qualified will be sent full application instructions within 48 hours.

Complete applications must be received on or before Monday, March 15, 2010, and will require transcripts and 3 letters of reference.  Notification will be sent to all applicants on or before Friday, April 16, 2010.
