SIT INTERLINK Fellowship Announced

This post has two parts. The first part describes this new fellowship: a paid INTERLINK teaching position and the SIT MA in Teaching. The second part guides your next steps should you qualify.


The Fellowship

The fellowship is available beginning June 2008 and provides full employment and a master’s degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages.

Applications are being accepted now for this special 4-part fellowship, which begins Sunday, June 22, 2008.

  1. June – August 2008. Classes at SIT in Brattleboro, Vermont.
  2. October 2008 – May 2009. Teach English language at Al-Yamamah College in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This period includes SIT supervision of the teaching.
  3. June – August 2009. Classes at SIT. This period includes a presentation during SIT’s Sandanona Conference on the Teaching and Learning of Languages.
  4. September 2009 – May 2010. Return to teaching position at Al-Yamamah College. Complete final SIT project or thesis.

Fellowship features

  • Half of the Fellows’ graduate tuition will be paid by INTERLINK and SIT
  • Beyond the tuition benefit, Fellows will be paid a starting salary of $28,000 per annum for the first year, untaxed by Saudi Arabia, plus furnished housing, international and local transportation, and health insurance
  • Approximate value is $50,000 with salary increases and bonuses for each year completed (Year One: 11%, Year Two: 12%, etc)
  • During the second year, salaries will start at $36,000 with a $2,000 bonus when degree requirements are completed
  • The Fellows’ only expenses in Saudi Arabia will be food, utilities, and personal expenses

The Fellowship is open to superior-level speakers of English who have teaching experience and a degree from an English-language university, regardless of first language or gender. Not awarded competitively, Fellowships are awarded based on qualification and experience.
