Susan Barduhn, in addition to everything else she does, directs the Teacher Training and Professional Development Institute, known on campus as TTI. She entices us with this announcement of the courses available in June.
The Teacher Training and Professional Development Institute serves teachers from around the world who want to continue their professional growth. Originally attracting MAT alumni who wanted to come back to campus for a week or two or to study online with some of their favorite professors, TTI now have a much larger following. Last year, whole teams of senior teachers came from language institutes and universities in Peru and Japan.
Many academic year students, both MATs and PIMs now stay on campus longer so that they can take these courses. An increasing number of summer MATs arrive early to participate. There is now a reciprocal effect, too, with TTI participants getting a feel for the kind of teaching SIT does and then deciding to enroll in MAT.
Enrollment has increased exponentially each year during the past six years. In 2004 there were 2 courses offered face-to-face. This year there will be 10, plus an additional 6 courses online during the academic year.
One reason the number of participants is increasing is the Certificate in Teacher Training Development, which may be granted after participating in 6 TTI courses. The certificate is proving to fill an important gap for many teachers.
Please find the schedule and links to the course descriptions below. Cost and registration information is available online.
