Teach English Anywhere in the World
This post outlines the largest of SIT’s degrees in teaching. Forty-four students enrolled in September 2007. About half are not citizens of the United States.
The MA in Teaching with a concentration in English to speakers of other languages, shortened often to MAT in ESOL or Internationalist, is designed for people who want to teach the language anywhere in the world. It is often used as a kind of Part One of two parts, combining English with another language, such as Spanish or French. This results in one master’s degree in two subjects.
Alumni are teaching in universities, public schools, private schools, for corporations and nonprofits, and other places language learning is valued. Alumni are also working in a wide variety of fields that support language learning, such as for publishers, software companies, ministries of education, and municipal agencies, among others. About half of the 3,000 alumni teach in the United States.
SIT’s is a 33-credit degree. Tuition for the entire degree is $26,260, payable in 3 terms, fall, spring, and portfolio.
What’s a portfolio? More on that another time.
